Our Sustainable Vision

The mission of the ADIM – Asociación de Desarrollo Integral de Montezuma – is to actively engage the local community and worldwide visitors towards Sustainable Tourism.  Sustainability principles refer to the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural aspects of tourism development and the suitable balance that has to be established between these three dimensions to guarantee its long-term sustainability.

Achieving sustainable tourism is a continuous process and we are happy to have you on board!

Working together to improve our communities.

New large-scale urban development projects on the Nicoya Peninsula represent a serious threat to the conservation legacy established with Cabo Blanco Park. This legacy has not only become the symbol of Costa Rica, but is also essential for the country’s economy thanks to tourism.

It is essential that any urban development on the Nicoya Peninsula aligns with the conservation principles that have defined its identity, respects environmental laws, and seeks to integrate local communities into the process.
The protection of Cabo Blanco Park and surrounding areas must be a priority, and decisions must be made taking into account both the health of maritime and terrestrial ecosystems, and the well-being of the populations that depend on them.

Protecting this legacy is not only a moral duty but also an intelligent strategy to ensure the future of sustainable tourism, which is key for the Costa Rican economy and for the preservation of the natural wealth of our region.

We believe that awareness and commitment of citizens, as well as policy makers, in a collaborative approach can make a difference.

Community Projects

One of the ADIM priorities is to recover the neglected areas of Montezuma and reinvent them by constructing high-quality and aesthetically pleasing public spaces. These areas are for the enjoyment of the local community and the many visitors we receive each year. Public spaces for all!

Making strides in sustainability.

You may notice that each business has one or more turtle badges under their listing in our directory. You may also see these badges around Montezuma in shop windows, hotel lobbies and restaurant bars.

These badges are called Ecoturtles and they are our way of distinguishing and promoting businesses who strive to become more sustainable and take care of our environment.

Below are the seven turtles and their significance; so you will know what green habits you are supporting when eating, sleeping, or shopping at these businesses.

Stop Ecocide

If you own a property or are thinking of buying one in Montezuma and become a future resident, remember:

1. We are a nature-loving community founded on conservationist principles. Damage to nature is non-negotiable!
2. At Montezuma we want to live in the middle of the jungle. If you love the concrete jungle, this place is not for you!
3. We share our land and a territory with an endless amount of wildlife: animals, insects, plants and trees. We invite you to plan your construction project thinking about preserving the biodiversity and beauty of the landscape around you!
4. Before choosing the site where you are going to build, look up at the sky and make sure that your construction will not affect the connection between the canopy so as not to interrupt a biological corridor.
5. We love neighbors who contribute to restoring the landscape of Montezuma, so we provide a list of key species for wildlife.
6. If you want to plant trees on your land, take into account the sites where it is necessary to improve the connection between treetops (far from power lines).
7. Respect the water protection areas, they allow the conservation of soil, water and function as biological corridors for wildlife.
8. Build legally and consciously! Check our “black list” of projects that have violated Costa Rican regulations and the communal codes of coexistence with nature.
9. Join communal environmental initiatives, as a volunteer or through donations.
