If you take the Sendero Verde (Green Trail) from Montezuma Beach, you will discover the unique Piedra Colorada, a cove where a small waterfall forms a freshwater pool ideal for small kids of all ages to swim and play.
Piedra Colorada’s river is ever-changing but often creates a large pool for swimming. Hiking further up the river, you’ll find a lovely waterfall to enjoy a natural water massage, smaller swimming pools, and lots of wildlife.
You will not regret going up the river a bit more to find a secluded waterfall and a big pool to enjoy the healing effects of Mother Earth, in the natural jacuzzis under a green canopy.
“Piedra” is Spanish for “stone.” Pierda Colorada gets its name from the stones of striking color that line its river bed. Visitors, local and international, stack stones to create a beach of beautiful collaborative natural sculptures. Feel free to create one yourself. While the stones at Piedra Colorada are amazing, do not take the stones from the beach. Leave the pristine experience for future visitors to enjoy. Additionally, is it not allowed to take objects other than plastic debris from the beaches in Costa Rica.
